meaning:
The five pillars of Islam define the basic identity of Muslims - their faith, beliefs and practices - and bind together a worldwide community of believers into a fellowship of shared values and concerns.
Shahada: the Muslim profession of faith (“there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the final messenger of Allah”).
Salah: It is the Islamic prayer. Most often the word Salah is used to describe the obligatory 5 daily prayers of the Muslims. It is a specific ritual, done at certain times, with a distinct method of practice.
Zakat: it is a donation that Muslims regard as a mandatory act within their faith. Followers of Islam who have at least a minimum amount of wealth are required to give 2.5% of their liquid assets away to charity each year.
Sawm: it is the Arabic word for fasting. In Islam, fasting is the practice of abstaining, usually from food, drink, smoking, sexual activity and anything which substitutes food and drink. During the holy month of Ramadan, sawm is observed between dawn and nightfall when the adhan of the Maghrib prayer is sounded.
Hajj: the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which every adult Muslim must make at least once in his or her lifetime. The hajj is the fifth of the fundamental Muslim practices and institutions known as the Five Pillars of Islam.
